On Friday, the federal indictment against 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump was unsealed.
The indictment, filed in the US District Court Southern District of Florida, charges Trump with 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information, one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, one count of withholding a document or record, one count of corruptly concealing a document or record, one count of concealing a document in a federal investigation, one count of scheme to conceal, and one count of false statements and representations.
The count of willful retention carries a maximum sentence of 10 years and a $250,000 fine; conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document, corruptly concealing a document, and concealing a document in a federal investigation each carry a 20-year maximum sentence and $250,000 fine; scheme to conceal and false statements and representations carry a maximum sentence of five years, as well as a $250,000 fine.
